Les Gold is a third-generation pawnbroker in the Detroit area where he runs the largest pawn shop in the city, American Jewelry and Loan. His show on truTV, “Hardcore Pawn” focuses on the real-experiences that occur when managing a pawn shop. The show currently holds the record for truTV’s most-watched series premiere. As Les says, “There are other pawn shows out there, but they don’t show the reality of life. The draw that truTV has really focused on was the reality of what goes on in a real pawn shop with real people”. As the boss, Les works with his two children, Ashley and Seth, in addition to more than 45 other employees. He is known for driving a hard bargain, being street-smart, and not putting up with any disrespect in his store. While no one is quicker to sniff out a shady customer, Les has a soft spot for truthful and loyal customers.
